Northwich 27-15 Wirral

WIRRAL travelled to promotion chasing Northwich with an under strength side and almost pulled off a remarkable win.

The Wirral team playing with great spirit held a 10-5 lead at halftime following a penalty by Craig Harvey and an opportunist try from Joe Murray which was duly converted.

It was only in the last minute of injury time of the first half that Graham Robinson scored from a metre out to put Northwich on the score sheet.

Wirral held the lead until the 47th minute when Graham Robinson scored again and this was followed by another from Ryan McKibbin one of which was converted, although taking place when Wirral were down to 14 men.

However Wirral hit back on the counter attack and scored through Robbie Pearl in the corner with a well executed blind side move, the conversion from the touchline just failed to draw the scores level.

The Northwich pressure began to tell and scored their try bonus point with eight minutes to go. Still Wirral came back but could not break through the defence and, to Northwich’s relief, a penalty in the closing minute sealed the victory.

Northwich now move up to second in the League with Wirral in a relegation dog fight with five other teams.
