Birkenhead Park made to work hard for win at Altrincham Kersal

BIRKENHEAD ground out a second away victory in National Three North League in a game played under difficult, wet conditions at Kersal Drive.

Park were never behind, but a late penalty earned the home side a bonus point.

Dave Ibbotson crossed for a fifth minute try for the visitors with Dave Hall converting but Jamie Singleton went in for the combined side at the end of the first quarter.

Hall and Rob Holloway for Altrincham Kersal exchanged two penalties each for an 11-13 interval score.

Second-half pressure by the visitors was rewarded when Christian Jones touched down after a driving maul on 51 minutes. Hall who was solid throughout at full-back added the extras.

Not surprisingly, there were some scrappy moments but Gavin Scott in a stand-in role at fly-half and Jones at hooker were well to the fore for Park in a solid all-round performance.
