Rugby Lions 3 - Caldy 69

FOUR Caldy players scored a brace as Caldy ran riot at the home of rugby, Rugby Lions, scoring 11 tries and taking their season’s tally of points over the 900 mark with three games still to go.

Andrew Soutar, Liam Devaney, Craig Ross and Gavin Roberts all scored two tries apiece with the latter kicking seven goals to take his personal tally for the day to 24 points.

Caldy could not have started the game better when Jack Collister powered his way over after one minute of the game and set the tone for the day.

Rugby Lions put up a spirited performance and the first half was noted for some big tackles from both sides. Andrew Soutar scored after eight minutes in the corner and notched a second after 30 minutes.

Craig Ross finished the half off with a fine try in the corner to leave the score 22-3. Immediately after the break, Oliver Cooper got a well deserved first try of the season which signalled an excellent period of Caldy play in which they showed their attacking prowess and pace and power going forward.

They scored 26 points in the first ten minutes of the second half to end any chance that Rugby Lions had of getting back into the game.

Caldy’s exciting brand of rugby produced a second half blitz with seven tries in total including two from replacement Liam Devaney and Gavin Roberts.

Most pleasing for Stuart Turner however was the defensive display as Caldy stopped the opposition scoring a try for the second successive weekend. Gareth Bansor was outstanding on the day with his all action style and was duly awarded the Man of the Match award after the game.

Caldy face a difficult game next weekend with the visit of Hull Ionians to Paton Field (kick off 3pm)
