New Brighton RUFC boost their survival hopes

NEW BRIGHTON boosted North One West League survival hopes with a vital 30-21 victory over Broughton Park at Hartsfield.

Fly-half Stephen Dean played a key role but it was a terrific all round team display which won the day.

The Blues led 17-10 at the break but Park hit back to go ahead before the home side rallied again.

Dean secured three tries. He also converted twice and kicked two penalties for a 25 points haul.

Paea Liku, who showed up well with Kati Tuipulotu and Kenny Boyd in the back-row, was the other to cross and it meant a bonus point for the Blues.

The visitors scored three tries in an absorbing contest.

Wirral played their part in an open North One West encounter which produced a dozen tries in all as they went down 47-31 to Sandbach.

Centre Craig Harvey went in three times for the losers. Ben Marsh and Oliver Atkinson also touched down.

Craig Harvey landed one conversion and his brother Dan Harvey a brace.

The home side scored seven tries with kicks making up the other points in a lively contest.

Leigh went on the rampage against Kirby Lonsdale in North One West League.

They relentlessly put pressure on the visiting rearguard and an 82-15 finish keeps them in with a good chance of avoiding the drop.

They are now fourth bottom and have a game in hand on Wigton who are immediately below them.

Hoylake enjoyed a 41-10 success over Ashton-on-Mersey in South Lancashire/Cheshire One. Tom Selby-Melic and Steve Young each touched down twice.

Mike Kearney and Joe Lavin also crossed and Lavin converted four times.

Collegiate beat Oswestry 38-10 but Ormskirk could not cope with a re-juvenated Sale as they fell 39-6.

Oldershaw took the Division Two derby against Wallasey 15-3 thanks to touch downs from Jon Roberts and Mark Sopp plus a penalty and a conversion by Neil Cross. Wallasey managed a consolation kick in a hard- fought affair.

Ruskin Park edged home 17-15 at Marple with easier successes for Orrell Anvils 31-3 against Dukinfield, Southport 43-7 over Holmes Chapel and Warrington 31-3 at the expense of Trentham.

Port Sunlight came away 26-12 to the good from Capenhurst in Division Three but Parkonians failed 18-10 at Buxton.

North Lancashire One scores included St Edwards 16 Burnley 25 and Tarleton 27 Birchfield 25.
