Caldy 44-29 Huddersfield

PATON Field witnessed a superb game of attacking rugby between Huddersfield and Caldy with nine tries being scored and Caldy eventually winning 44-29.

Chris Johnson started the scoring with a well taken drop goal only for Gavin Roberts to hit straight back for Caldy after good work by Salisbury to score under the posts, which Vasey converted.

Another Johnson penalty soon followed as Huddesfield grew in stature and Nick Sharpe who was a pain in the Caldy side all day powered over the line after some considerable pressure from the Huddersfield pack.

On 24 minutes, Caldy prop forward Gavin Woods was found out wide by Vasey and he barrelled his way over the whitewash to hit back for the home side. Andrew Soutar scored again for Caldy on 30 minutes in a well worked move which Johnson replied to with a penalty kick to leave the half time score 19-16.

After the break it was more of the same and straight from the kick off Jack Collister caught the ball which was recycled through the backs with Craig Ross the grateful recipient in the corner.

Further penalties from Johnson first and then Vasey were kicked before Dave Hall scored an excellent solo try.

Gareth Lewis scored another try after good work by Hall and the scores were close at 30-29.

Caldy then stepped on the gas for the last ten minutes as first Gavin Roberts scored and this was soon followed by Craig Ross completing his brace for the day.
