BIRKENHEAD just missed out on any reward in a hard fought National Three North League clash at second placed Bradford and Bingley.
Both sides made light of the snow bound pitch to produce a lively affair which remained in the balance until a crucial third home try in the 76th minute.
Defences dominated until Park took a 35th minute lead with a Dave Hall penalty.
The combined side, despite having a player dispatched to the sin bin, rallied to run in two tries before the break. Influential fly-half Giles Heatherington got the first and Tom Morton the second in the fourth minute of added time. Gavin Stead added both goals. Park were back in contention with a Christian Jones try goaled by Hall in the 48th minute and it was anybody’s game until Heatherington struck again for the Yorkshiremen with Stead again on target with the goal.
Jones and Matt Ibbotson did well in the Park front row and there was also a promising contribution from back row man Jack Ashcroft. Park stay fourth in the table.
