Caldy went so close to claiming their tenth win of the season

CALDY nearly snatched their tenth win of the season with a dramatic game at Hull but eventually were made to pay for their slow start to the game, which could have been so different if a Derek Salisbury try had not been disallowed.

Caldy made a terrible start to the game as the home side looked to use their obvious size and power and got themselves to a deserved 21-0 lead by half time with three converted tries. Winger Will Robinson scored their first try with a dazzling run as he cut inside winger Dan Rowlands and raced under the posts.

Three minutes later fly half Cameron scored Hull’s second try after collecting his own kick which bounced between two would-be defenders and into his grasp.

On 30 minutes, Cameron scored his second as a wicked bounce again benefited Hull and in particular Cameron who scored his second try of the day and a personal first half haul of 16 points.

Caldy made a much better start to the second half as a good period of possession allowed them to find space out wide and winger Dan Rowlands touched down in the corner.

Vasey converted and added a penalty soon after to reduce the deficit to 11 points.

That deficit was reduced even further when centre Gavin Roberts took a short ball from Woof and raced under the posts, Vasey again converting.

The pressure on Hull was mounting but they managed to regain possession from the kick off and after several attempts by the forwards to breach the Caldy defence the ball was spun wide and centre James Greene scored, Cameron converted.

Caldy were not upset by this setback and were disappointed shortly after when the referee, who was excellent on the day, disallowed a Salisbury try who picked the ball off the floor and dived over yet was adjudged to have received a forward pass.

On 73 minutes, Adam Aigbokhae scored a converted try out wide to again reduce the lead to four points but were unable to snatch a winning try in the last seven minutes.
