Caldy end their league campaign with a win

CALDY finally completed their extended league campaign with a hard earned victory away at already relegated Bradford Bingley who had led by 12 points earlier on the game.

With wins elsewhere for Macclesfield and Loughborough Students, the result means that Caldy finish in third place and yet another superb season for the Wirral outfit.

Bradford started the scoring on six minutes when their impressive back rower David Ford powered over in the left hand corner which was unconverted.

Rich Vasey hit back on 17 minutes with a well taken drop goal only for Bradford centre James McBirnie to find space immediately from the kick off to stretch the Bradford lead to 10-3. Jack Collister scored a converted try on 28 minutes after some pressure from the Caldy side. Bradford’s James Morton found space out wide on the left wing to race into the corner and leave the half time score 15-10 to the home side.

On 54 minutes, lively Bradford winger Ashley Walker found space and sprinted over the line to score a converted try and stretch the Bradford lead to 22-10.

The Caldy side then seemed to find another gear and Gavin Woods forced his way over the line for a well deserved converted try in his last game for the club for some time.

Bradford kicked a penalty before Adam Aigbokhae scored another try after he found space on the right wing to touch down.

It was probably fitting that the final and game winning try came from Caldy lock Paul Arnold on 75 minutes, who stretched out his arm to place the ball over the line to secure the bonus point win and ensure the Caldy men finished the season on a high.
