CALDY produced some sublime rugby in a hectic first 27 minutes that saw them take a 38-0 lead against a tough Westoe side.
Ben MacPherson had an excellent game at full-back scoring a hat-trick and Paul Arnold finally broke the National League record when he crossed the whitewash for try number 26.
MacPherson got Caldy on the scoreboard after three minutes when he found space to score out wide and almost immediately afterwards Jake Lyon powered over the line after an excellent flowing move between the backs and forwards.
Arnold broke the record and got the third try for Caldy on eight minutes after a MacPherson break and MacPherson was seemingly untouchable as he ghosted in for his second of the day and Caldy’s fourth to secure the bonus point.
Andrew Soutar got the fifth after excellent inter-play between him and John Broxson who was outstanding at scrum-half all day.
Craig Smithson found space to get over the line on 27 minutes for Caldy’s sixth try four of which were converted by Richard Vasey to take a 38-0 lead.
At the end of the first-half, Westoe scored two well worked tries by Clark and Olugbode to leave the half-time score 38-12.
Clark scored again after half-time suggesting a second-half fight back by Westoe but Vasey calmed the away supporters’ nerves with a successful penalty kick after 53 minutes.
On 66 minutes, MacPherson eluded several tacklers to scamper underneath the posts to complete his hat-trick and Westoe scored their own bonus point try in the last minute of the game through Charlie Raynor to leave the final score 48-26.
Another excellent result for a Caldy side who seem to be getting better and better as the season comes to an end.
NEW BRIGHTON finally turned on the style to post a big success at lowly Tyldesley in North One West League with a 55-11 victory.
It put some gloss on a disappointing season which sees them finish fourth bottom in the table.
There was not much between the packs but the Blues had a definite edge in the back division and took charge in the second period.
Anthony Birley and Luke Thompson scored first-half tries for Brighton. Later Vin Dutton crossed twice with singles for Adam Pitt, Kieran Hibbs, Simione Mafi and Andy Signal.
Birley, who was influential at fly-half, hit five conversions. Phil Gazzola and Mike Gazzola showed up well in the forwards.
Tyldesley landed two first-half penalties and a breakaway try.
