Caldy enjoy a comfortable win over Waterloo

CALDY produced a 12 try blitz at the Annual Past Players and Captains day against Waterloo in a one sided affair at Paton Field.

It took only six minutes for Caldy to get their first try when Derek Salisbury forced his way over the line, Vasey missed the conversion.

Jon Nugent added Caldy’s second only ten minutes later which Vasey did convert after a flowing move between the forwards and Neil Kerfoot scored an excellent third try only 18 minutes after good interchanging between Ben MacPherson and John Broxson.

Ben MacPherson scored himself on 25 minutes when he found space out wide to touch down and Craig Smithson scored a pushover try after a strong run from Jon Sewell.

Caldy scored two further tries in the last two minutes of the first half with Rich Vasey and Jake Lyon both touching down to leave the half time score 47-0.

Craig Smithson scored his second of the day on 42 minutes when he found space in the 22 and stretched over the line and Paul Arnold scored his 24th try of the season on 45 minutes when he sprinted from the Waterloo ten metre line and evaded two would be tacklers to score an excellent try.

On 48 minutes, came the loudest cheer of the day when Nick Christopherson scored a converted try but it was back to normal business only five minutes later as Gavin Roberts weaved in between two defenders to score his 10th of the season.

On 68 minutes, Paul Arnold scored his second and 25th of the season from a lineout move and reliable John Broxson capped the day off when he sneaked down the blind side for a cheeky try in the 78th minute.

Rich Vasey scored 25 points in an excellent personal tally.
