Wirral 53-19 Oswestry

FOLLOWING last week’s dramatic defeat at Wigan, Wirral were looking to make amends in their last home league game of the season against Oswestry thereby securing the two points they required to win the South Lancs. & Cheshire One league title.

This was achieved through a comprehensive 53-19 win against a spirited Oswestry side.

Both sides played open rugby in an entertaining game, Wirral, in particular, played a fast-handling game with all the players looking to handle the ball and support each other particularly in the second half.

Wirral scored their first try through Robbie Pearl but were pegged back by a try from the Oswestry forwards.

However, Oswestry had no answer to the decisive running of the Wirral team, who supported any player making a break and scored eight tries, through, Ali Baker (3).

Robbie Pearl (2), Stu Hughes, Sam Broadbent and Danny Harvey. Danny and Sam also shared the goal kicking duties.

Ryan, Harvey, a great servant of the club over the last few seasons came on for the last 20 minutes, in what was his final league game for the club before retirement and bowed out giving the large crowd his usual dynamic performance.
