CALDY produced an excellent second half display to overcome a tough Huddersfield side in a game that highlighted the skills of players in this league, despite the poor weather.
Huddersfield started the better and were awarded a penalty kick within seven minutes of the start which their fly half Johnson duly slotted.
On 11 minutes, Gavin Roberts got Caldy’s first score when he collected a loose ball and sprinted past the forlorn tacklers to score a superb try out wide.
Vasey missed the conversion but did add a further three points five minutes later from a penalty in front of the posts. On the stroke of half time, Huddersfield levelled the scores with a try from their winger Sutcliffe which Johnson was unable to convert leaving the scores 8-8.
After half time, Caldy slipped into top gear and it only took four minutes for Gav Roberts to get his and Caldy’s second of the day, which Vasey converted, after he found space in the Huddersfield 22 metre area.
On 51 minutes, the mercurial Ben MacPherson weaved his way in between two would-be tacklers before sliding over the line and again Vasey got the conversion.
Caldy scored their bonus point try on 54 minutes when Man of the Match, Andrew Soutar, touched down in the corner for a well deserved try.
Vasey converted from the touchline to make the scores 29-8 to Caldy.
On 72 minutes, Paul Arnold scored his 20th try of the season when he broke free inside the Huddersfield half and the day was finished off with a consolation for Huddersfield when Mark Whitehead scored and Johnson duly converted to leave the final score 36-15 to Caldy.
Another good performance by Caldy as they look forward to the crunch game next weekend at Macclesfield.
