WIRRAL demolished Isle of Man outfit Vagabonds 74-12 at Clatterbridge and are now just a point away from the South Lancashire/Cheshire One title.

Alistair Baker ran in five tries and Stu Hughes a brace with singles via Phil Donaldson, Oliver Atkinson, Adam Stevens, Dan Harvey and Sam Broadbent. There were seven conversions.

Anselmians had to settle for a 21-21 draw at Sale. John Close grabbed two tries with Simon Mason hitting one conversion and a trio of penalties.

Hoylake saw off Ormskirk 34-25. Matt O’Hanlon, Rob Kurton, Steve Young, Tom Selby and Guy Fryatt touched down and Young landed three of the goals plus a penalty.

Three kicks earned Wigan a 9-7 success at Oswestry but Warrington went under 3-17 at the hands of Winnington Park.

Sefton surprised Douglas 19-17 in the Isle of Man in Division Two. Steve Moffatt crossed twice and Liam Brown once with Adam Marnell landing two conversions.

A Dan Atherton try plus the conversions and two penalties by Mark Hallam earned Oldershaw a 13-3 success over Southport.

Wallasey beat Trentham 25-13 with Greg Maxwell, Tom Cubbin and Paul Haines all going in and Matt Climo kicking two conversions and a couple of penalties. while Ruskin Park sneaked home 9-8 at Orrell Anvils and Collegiate came away 20-6 to the good from Ashton on Mersey.

Prenton took the Division Three derby against Parkonians 36-10. Peter Collins, Mike Salisbury, Steve Evans, Gareth Knapman and Jos Fisher all crossed with Daryl Parker kicking the other points. Barry Owens scored a try, a conversion and a penalty for Parks.

Ellesmere Port failed 13-33 at home to Linley and Port Sunlight were crushed 3-112 at Ramsey, Isle of Man.

St Edwards won 12-7 at Carnforth to head North Lancs One. Carl Driscoll and Peter Stephenson went in and Martin McGeough converted once.

West Park Warriors saw off St Mary’s 41-21 with a brace of tries each for Matt Cozens, Jim Pye and John Ellison plus a single from Neil Atherton. Kal Warburton added two conversions and a penalty.

New Brighton fell to a surprise defeat at the hands of a Blackburn side which had won only once in 20 previous attempts in North One West League.

A late penalty tipped the balance in favour of the home side.

The Blues looked as if they would run away with the game as they scored early tries via Paul Lewis and Kati Tuipulotu both converted by Luke Thompson but other scoring opportunities were not taken and Blackburn hit back with a converted try before the break.

Mafi Simione gained the third Brighton touch down again goaled by Thompson but the home side was able to breach the defence too easily before the penalty clincher.

A resilient and enterprising Rochdale made Birkenhead fight all the way for a 12th National Three North League victory.

Park looked to be cruising at 14-0 inside the first twenty minutes but the visitors hit back to lead in the third quarter to make a real game of it.

Mike Chapman and Freeman Payne scored excellent home tries, both goalled by Dave Hall but Rochdale were equally impressive as Van Zyl burst clear to touch down with Steve Collins converting to make it 14-7 at the break.

Collins kicked a penalty immediately on the re-start and then John Mair went over with the Collins goal making it a three-point Rochdale advantage.

A Collins penalty on 63 minutes put the scoreboard at 21-20 with everything to play for. Park survived some anxious moments until sub Mark McKeon got in at the corner in added time.
