Corby Town 4-1 Vauxhall Motors

VAUXHALL have enjoyed something of a resurgence of late, but there was no such luck on Saturday.

Both teams started this game desperately looking for points but for different reasons.

The game came to life after the interval and it was Vauxhall who took the lead on 46 minutes when on-loan striker Josh Macauley raced down the left wing and fired across Osborn into the bottom far corner.

However, Corby striker Leon Mettam equalised just two minutes later when he netted from close range following Jamie McGhee’s right wing cross.

The Motormen looked rocked and just five minutes later Jack Defty made it 2-1 when he controlled another cross by McGhee and fired home off the post. Then after another two minutes, Leon Mettam doubled his tally as Corby stormed into a 3-1 lead.

With ten minutes remaining, Defty bagged his second of the game with a looping header over Vauxhall keeper James Coates. Corby: Osborn, Hope, Mayo, Dolman (Watt 83), Gullivar, Towers, Deeney (McGhee 46), Solkhon, Defty, Mettram (Millar 76), Walker

Subs not used: Strachan, Lee

Vauxhall: Coates, Lane, Dames, Winters, Hannigan, Egerton, J Macauley, Moogan (Furlong 62), Noon, Wilson Grice (Noone 62)

Subs not used: Owens, Mustafa, Smith

Next up for Vauxhall is the long trip to lowly Gloucester City on Saturday (3pm).

Gloucester are just three points above the Motormen in the Blue Square North table and have recently been in the headlines with regards their current ground sharing arrangements. They are currently looking into sharing with Cheltenham Town due to the unexpected additional expense of bringing their current stadium, The Corinium Stadium, up to the Grade B standard by the March 31 deadline.Š

Elsewhere, Motors’ top scorer and skipper Josh Wilson has agreed to put pen to paper on a contract with the club through to the end of next season.Š

Wilson joined the Motormen last summer from Burscough and his influence has been invaluable as Vauxhall look to avoid relegation, scoring 11 goals in 37 appearances to date.Š

Lee Dodgson, who only moved to Rivacre Park last month, has joined Stalybridge Celtic.
