Caldy recorded an excellent win at Hull

CALDY rolled back the years as Matt Holt and Stuart Turner came off the bench in the last 10 minutes to secure an excellent away victory against Hull RUFC and move up into second place.

The game started well for Caldy as they went 13-0 in front within the first 15 minutes of the game thanks to two penalties and a well worked converted try for Shaun Woof.

Woof was put into space by Richard Vasey and he glided under the posts. Hull hit back with a penalty of their own from the boot of fly half Cameron to make it 3-13.

On 20 minutes, a dropped ball was collected by the impressive Rob Kitching who sprinted from his own 10 metre line to score out wide and make the score 8-13.

Then came a series of penalties as first Caldy were awarded a penalty for holding on and Vasey kicked the conversion to make it 8-16. Then Cameron hit back and a further exchange of penalties left the scores at 14-19 at half time.

The second half started in the same fashion as Derek Salisbury was adjudged offside and Hull closed the gap to 17-19.

On 53 minutes, Paul Arnold broke the sequence of penalties as he powered over the line following excellent work by Craig Smithson, Vasey was unable to convert the try.

Caldy worked the ball back into the Hull half and Vasey kicked another penalty to make it 17-27.

Immediately from the kick off, Hull put pressure on the Caldy defensive line and Oliver Norman collected his own excellent grubba kick to score a converted try and narrow the scores to 24-27. The game was on a knife edge when on 75 minutes Matt Holt and Stuart Turner replaced Woods and Dowridge. Following a good catch and drive by the forwards on the Jull line referee Vertigan awarded Caldy a penalty try which was converted to make the scores 24-34.

Norman replied with his second try of the game only to be outdone by Stuart Turner when he controlled a rolling maul to touch down for his second try in two weeks as well as earning Caldy their vital bonus point.
