NEW Brighton just missed out in a closely fought North One West League clash at Powderhouse Lane.

Vale scored four tries and one conversion. The Blues responded with three tries and two goals.

Brighton with a weakened line-up paid dearly for missed tackles but they staged an excellent fight back after finding themselves 7-22 down in the second-half. The forwards drove over for a second try for Loa Topou.

Then Simione Mafi touched down. Anthony Birley converted all three tries.
