CALDY RFU have had a somewhat disappointing week in many respects but the silver lining was definitely the presentation of the RFU’s Whole Club Seal of Approval.
Ex-England captain Bill Beaumont presented the award to president Jim Churchill on Saturday before the Fylde game in front of match sponsors B&M Waste Services.
Beaumont who captained England and then later the British Lions said: “This is an award that is not given lightly and reflects well on the club and its future.”
The new Accreditation follows on from the RFU Youth Seal of approval, which Caldy achieved in 2003, and takes into account club policies, coaching qualifications, infrastructure and a 10 year plan to illustrate that it can sustain and improve in all areas in the future.
Club Chairman Graham Armitage said: “This is a tremendous achievement. We are one of the first clubs in the country to attain this award and it is largely thanks to the fantastic efforts of our club secretary Roger Flashman.”
Caldy are one of the most successful rugby clubs in the North West and carry four senior teams as well as huge junior and minis sections. They have two Community Rugby Development Officers - Ben MacPherson and Richard Vasey - who go into local schools to promote rugby, create opportunities to join local clubs and attend tournaments as well as encouraging generally healthier life styles.
