WALLASEY’S winning streak is over after they felt the full force of a Bootle backlash.
The Wirral side had notched a remarkable 12 successive wins in all competitions but they found the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier League leaders too hot to handle.
Bootle went into the game on the back of a nightmare double-header which saw them lose to lowly Prestatyn and then bow out of the National Club Championship at Chester-le-Street.
Bootle were determined to get their title bid back on track and they took control early on as openers Steven Mullaney (59) and skipper David Snellgrove (41) put on 97.
Chris Bourne (3-76) and Andrew Ward (3-23) checked their progress and The leaders finally declared on 191-6 off 52 overs.
Wallasey lost early wickets in reply and despite a gutsy 50 from John Pugh they slipped to 149 all out off 52.1 overs.
Mark O’Connor (3-17), Aussie Pat Jackson (3-75) and Snellgrove (3-21) shone with the ball.
Second-placed New Brighton lost ground after being second best in a draw at Colwyn Bay.
Skipper Tim Watkins opted to bat first but New Brighton were dismissed for 159 off 49.5 overs.
Matt Thompson top scored with 34 as they struggled at the hands of Nathan Rimmington (6-66) and Paul Jenkins (4-50).
Martyn Evans claimed 3-24 in reply but Sion Morris struck an unbeaten 69 as Bay reached 135-5 off 38 overs.
Defending champions Ormskirk are up to third after a 61-run win at Newton-le-Willows.
