Burscough0

VAUXHALL made sure there was no happy return for former manager Andy Mutch with a deserved victory at the Motassist Arena.

Burscough have had a mini revival recently and included ex-Motormen Brian Moogan and Peter Heler in their starting line-up but they found themselves a goal down early on.

Prolific striker Lee Furlong hit a low shot from an acute angle which managed to squeeze past keeper Steve Dickinson at the near post to make it 1-0 after just 3minutes.

Vauxhalls nearly doubled their advantage after 20minutes when good link up play on the right by Lee Owens eventually fell to Karl Noon in the box but his left foot shot rattled the crossbar from 8 yards out.

Burscough were unfortunate to see midfielder Josh Wilson stretchered off after 29 minutes after falling awkwardlyon his ankle following a challenge with Mattie Burke.

Just before the interval Burcough did have a chance to level when striker Craig Davies ran at the Vauxhall defence and delivered a dangerous ball across the six yard box but Michael Grogan failed to connect from close range which could have drawn the Linnets level.

The second half was fairly uneventful although late on, with Burscough chasing the game, they reverted to three at the back which left them a little exposed.

This was highlighted on 79 minutes when Furlong found himself one on one with the keeper, he rounded Dickinson with ease and the on rushing Tom Field was on hand to slot the ball into an empty net and make the points safe.
