Rake on cloud nine after Junior Cup win

Birkenhead & Wirral A.F.L. Junior Cup Round 1.

THIS weekend saw the start of the Wirral Junior Cup, 1st round action got under way when Brombrough Rake comprehensively beat Ellesmere Port Jnr 9-0.

Goals coming from a Ben Phillips hatrick one via a clever lob over the on coming keeper. Danny Wilson, Kieron Delaney both netted doubles, Tommy Belton and Tony Inskip completed the rout.

Chester & District opponents F.C. Village took on second division Greenbank and ran away with an emphatic 11-0 victory. All credit to Greenbank who had to field an under strength side totalling 10 men for the full 90 minutes.

FC Wirral challenged 1st division Bird FC taking the game right to the wire. The game was tied at 3-3 as the full time whistle blew, The Bird finished the stronger winning 6-3 after extra time. Kyle Roberts smashed in four, followed up by strikes for Mike Davies and Jamie Williams.

Ridgewood Rangers challenged high flying Manor Athletic from the Chester & District 1st division and went on to record an impressive 2-0 victory. Neil Davies fired in both of Rangers goals , his second coming from a cheeky little chip over the keeper to put The Birkenhead & Wirral 2nd division outfit safely into round two of the draw.

Fender F.C marched into the next round knocking out Neston Legion 4-1. Liam Kearns smashed in an amazing 40 yrd pile driver aided by strikes for Pete Stewart, Jamie Wilson, and Chris Amis. Ben Pearson netted from the spot for The Legion.

Queens Arms went down 5-2 at home to Claughton F.C in this all 1st division clash. Ian McGrath finished twice, one from a 25 yrd drive, Michael Kearney, Thomas Murray and man of the match Dave Bowe got their names on the score sheet for the jubilant Claughton.

New Ferry Wirral Hotel Vets were unlucky going out after penalties to Rangers Breaks. The teams finished in a 2-2 stalemate after 90 minutes. Rangers went on to win the game 2-1 on penalties. Simon Crabtree and Tony Leesaw got New Ferry's goals after some good passing movement from the vets.

Bronze Social went down 2-1 against Zone Fitness from The Chester league. Mark Goodacre glanced home a well taken header for The Bronze in a game that could of gone either way.
