Girls’ football in Wirral all set to get makeover, American-style

GIRLS’ football in Wirral is all set to receive a makeover, American-style.

Soccer America, headed up by Heswall resident and US native Dean Schneider, is aiming to revolutionise female footy in the area.

Having established soccer camps around the States, coach Schneider is bringing his 21 years of experience in the teaching of physical education, character education and health to Merseyside.

Dean has already set up links with the Local Education Authority and is looking to take his camps into schools, with five day half-term events the top of his agenda.

He said: “I am looking to develop school programmes and extra-curricular activities, especially in half-term, close to the Heswall area but eventually to all over Merseyside.

“I have been working on it for about eight weeks and am ready to start as soon as possible so we could hit the ground running by the end of this month.”

Coach Schneider has trained more than 800 girls a summer and has developed his own character education curriculum for the past 12 years.

Sessions focus on fitness and sportsmanship, with short sessions on character traits, diligence, self-esteem and responsibility.

Dean is also hoping to work closely with the Liverpool FC Ladies side and get players like Caz Charlton on board to help with the training.
