ROCK Ferry High School's hopes of becoming the first Wirral School to win an under-16 national 11-a-side title were crushed in injury time at the City of Manchester Stadium.
The Wirral side had led 4-0 before a goal from Sean Adderley completed a spirited fightback from Torquay Grammar school to earn his side an unlikely 5-4 win.
This scarcely seemed possible when goals from Luke Baugh, Billy Foster, Ryan Youds and Ross Parry put the Merseyside lads 4-0 up inside 24 minutes and 4-1 at the interval.
But Torquay pulled it back to 4-4 and then with extra time beckoning, there was late heartbreak for Rock Ferry High.
