Wirral in last 16 of Nat Cup

WIRRAL Schoolboys are through to the last 16 of the National Cup after a 2-1 victory over Hartlepool at Pensby School.

The under-15s side were fast out of the blocks and opened the scoring in the first minute of the game when Jimmy Ireland rounded the Hartlepool keeper, who had spilled a James Woods shot.

Despite a strong wind being in Wirral’s favour, they were unable to add to their lead in the first half.

Wirral started the second half brightly and doubled the lead on 60 minuted when Marc Litherland cleverly chipped Hartlepool's keeper after a good throughball from Curtis Jones.

They conceded a long range effort 10 minutes from time but held on to claim the 2-1 victory.
