Barnston win Hoolihan Cup

TWENTY schools entered the Hoolihan Cup, with the qualifying rounds played in four groups, similar to the World Cup.

In the Group stages, Barnston qualified as runners-up to Christ the King from Bromborough.

They then went on to beat Poulton Lancelyn in the quarter-final and Our Lady of Pity in the semi-finals.

This led to a final against Christ the King, who had beaten them 5-0 in the group stages.

This time it was a different Barnston team, who proved to be the more determined, running out deserved 3-1 winners on a very wet evening.

Goals were scored by Hollywood, Middleton and Spencer, but it was the way every single player on the Barnston side contributed to the team effort.
