Vauxhall Motors unlucky to lose to Hyde FC

SECOND half goals from Scott Spencer and Godwin Abadaki gave leaders Hyde all three points against a battling Motors side.

There were few chances created from either side in the opening 45 minutes as both defences stood firm but the game came to life after half-time.

Motors started the half brightest and man-of-the-match Craig Mahon nearly put the hosts in front on 50 minutes when he pulled the trigger from 20 yards out but his fine strike went inches wide of the left hand post.

Hyde started to get a foothold on the game shortly after as they kept possession and looked dangerous going forward. Their efforts were rewarded on 60 minutes when a deflected shot ricocheted kindly into the path of leading goalscorer Scott Spencer who calmly fired home from eight yards out.

The home side made a double substitution on 65 minutes to freshen things up, however, they continued to struggle with the pace of Hyde on the counter attack and both Motors central defenders were booked in quick succession for making last ditch challenges.

With five minutes remaining, Vauxhall thought they had won a penalty as Mahon danced through the Hyde defence and was subsequently tripped in the area, but the referee waved play on.

Late substitute Godwin Abadaki made sure Hyde took maximum points away from Rivacre Park when he dispossessed Mattie Burke in injury time and beat a further defender before slotting the ball through Tynan’s legs to make it 2-0.

After the match, Motors manager Carl Macauley said: “Over the 90 minutes I thought it was a fairly even encounter. The first goal was going to be crucial and they got a bit of luck with the ricochet but we were still in it at 1-0. I thought we should have had a penalty when Mahon was tripped in the area but it wasn’t given. We give away a sloppy second goal in the final minutes and it game over.

He added: “My main area of concern at the moment is we aren’t offering much in the final third and we need goals if we are going to stay in this division. However, I’m looking at doing something about that before Tuesday’s important game away to Eastwood’
