Force is with Obi Anoruo as Vauxhall Motors defeat Redditch United

TOP goalscorer Obi Anoruo scored his seventeenth goal of the season to end a barren run of six straight defeats and move the Motormen up to 13th in the Blue Square Bet North table.

With Motors missing nine players through injury and Redditch already relegated, this was never going to be a classic and was typical of an end of season encounter with both sides having nothing to play for but pride.

The first half was one way traffic with Vauxhall bombarding the Redditch defence. Man-of-the match Dave Mannix fired wide after 35 minutes then two minutes later, captain Josh Wilson hit a sweet right footed volley from ten yards out which went inches wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

The Motormen continued to push forward and eventually broke the deadlock on 66 minutes when a Chris Noone cross caused confusion in the Redditch defence and defender Alexander Hickman put the ball past keeper Owen Hancox after the two Redditch players collided in the six yard box.

Redditch to their credit battled away and equalised on 73 minutes with the second own goal of the game.

Charisma Agbonlahor caused havoc in the Motors defence and his left wing cross whilst under pressure beat Scott Tynan and Kevin Grocott tracking back was caught flat footed and turned the ball into his own net.

The winning goal came on 79 minutes when Anoruo turned his marker from 30 yards out then burst through the Redditch defence before hitting a fine left footed strike past Hancox from eight yards out.
