Hyde FC 1 Vauxhall Motors 2
MOTORS came from behind to take three points at Ewen Fields thanks to two well taken goals by in-form striker Leighton McGivern.
Hyde are currently on the edge of the relegation zone and looked like a team desperate for points however, they did start strongly and missed a number of chances in the opening stages.
On 15 minutes, the home side were rewarded for their efforts when debutant striker Matty Barlow was fouled in the box by Andy Taylor and the referee awarded a penalty.
Hyde full-back Andy Smart stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
The equaliser came after 36 minutes when Craig Mahon cut inside from the right and delivered a probing ball into the area which McGivern anticipated and got the deftest of flicks at the back post to divert past ex-Vauxhall keeper Kyle Clancy from close range.
McGivern got the winner five minutes after the interval with a goal worthy of winning any game. Neil Prince played a clever ball over the Hyde defence which McGivern controlled in his stride then rifled home a brilliant right footed shot.
The Vauxhall defence stood firm for the remainder of the game despite some late pressure from Hyde with defender Tom Hannigan, in particular, impressing.
McGivern nearly got his hat-trick with 10 minutes remaining but shot wide of Clancy’s left hand post then Tomos Roberts was clean through in the final minutes but Clancy saved with his legs.
This was Vauxhall’s first victory in the league at Ewen Fields since 2006 as the Motormen remain ninth in the Blue Square Bet North league
