Honours go to McGinty’s in clash of the titans

LAST weekend’s games were dominated by Sponsors Cup first round fixtures.

First up saw the clash of the titans as first placed Birkenhead FC took on second placed McGinty’s in an action packed 2-4 result in McGinty’s favour.

Ralph Welch hit a decent double aided by a cracker into the top corner from the edge of the box by Jesse Owens, and Bohan Dixon completed the score line with a mazy run from the half way line to round the keeper and place into the net.

Top placed second division Bromborough Rake cruised into the next round of the cup after a convincing 6-0 victory over Neston Legion.

Player/manager Danny Wilson slotted in a brace, his second courtesy of a 25 yard curling shot into the back of the net.

Tony Inskip got his name on the sheet again with two bullet headers, while Carl Boyd and Keith O’Toole rounded things off for The Rake.

FC Wirral go into the hat for the next round draw after disposing of local rivals Bronze Social in a 4-1 tussle.

Alex Wilson, Jake Painter, Craig Armitage all hit solos and a spectacular long range strike for Matty Hughes sealed the game for Wirral.

Myrtle AFC go through after a close 2-1 encounter against Queens Arms, Darren Sutton poaching with a tap in then Derek Taylor grabbing the winner as he cooly slotted home under pressure for jubilant Myrtle.
