Birkenhead recover to maintain lead at top

THE league finally got back to business after an epic six week lay off due to adverse weather conditions, although there were a couple of postponements due to water logged pitches.

Myrtle AFC recovered from 2-0 down against Bird FC to record a 4-3 victory away from home. Paul Kane, Darren Sutton, Billy Duggan and centre half Michael Skillen all fired in singles for the visitors.

League leaders Birkenhead FC also came from behind to beat a stubborn Queens Arms side 5-3. Hit men Ian Louchran and strike partner Jamie Edwards both hit the target twice, but the pick of the goals came from a fine right footed volley from Paul Dunlevey.

McGinty’s remain in second place, two points behind leaders Birkenhead, after they overcame Fender in a hard fought 2-1 victory. Callum Kelly and Ralph Welch both notching singles for the Liverpool based outfit.

In the Second Division, AFC Stadium stay in second spot after a close 2-1 win at home against Bronze Social. Craig Potter grabbed the first followed by top marksman Carl Aldred.

Bromborough Rake remain unbeaten in league two after demolishing FC Wirral 8-2 to make it a perfect ten wins out of ten. Keith O’Toole spearheaded the rout hitting four strikes with Carl Boyd, Tony Inskip, Lewis McNally and a right footed volley from man of the match Danny Wilson. Goal machine Paul Gundersen slotted home twice for the deflated FC Wirral side.

Sam Dooley and Daryl Henin both fired home volleys for Ridgewood Rangers in this mid-table clash against Neston Legion, with Ben Pearson responding yet again for The Legion.
