VAUXHALL Motors produced a good second half performance however a Brian Moogan brace was not enough to prevent a Lairds victory at Kirklands.
The Motormen played an unfamiliar 3-5-2 and found themselves 3-0 down at the interval.
Lairds debutant Tom McGill headed home from close range on 12 minutes then on 30 minutes Anthony Lipson hit a clean right foot strike past Scott Tynan from 10 yards out.
It got worse for Vauxhalls on 40 minutes when a Lairds corner was headed into the danger area and John Corrigan reacted quickest to turn and shoot from close range.
Stand-in manager Anthony Wright made three changes at half-time and the away team looked a different side for the final 45 minutes. On 65 minutes, Motors debutant Obi Onouro burst through the Lairds defence but was hauled down as he looked to pull the trigger in the box. Captain Brian Moogan stepped up and smashed home the resulting penalty.
Just five minutes later and it was substitute Josh Wilson who found himself through on goal and this time Lairds keeper Phil Palethorpe deliberately fouled Wilson in the area and once again Moogan comfortably slotted home the penalty.
The Motormen nearly snatched a dramatic last minute equaliser when a Moogan corner found the head of Wilson but Palethorpe pulled off a brilliant point blank save and Tom Hannigan hit the post with the rebound.
