Vauxhall are ready for Blackburn showdown

VAUXHALL Motors kick off their pre-season preparations on Saturday 10 July against a Blackburn Rovers XI (3pm ko) and Manager Carl Macauley is quietly optimistic about the season ahead.

Macauley said: “We returned back to training a couple of weeks ago and the squad is looking in good shape although a number of the lads are currently on holiday.” Macauley is looking to keep faith with the bulk of last season’s squad with only striker Lee Furlong released up to now, Macauley said: “I’m confident that when the season starts next month I will have a squad in place that can hold their own against any team in the Blue Square North.”

He added: “We have just signed Paul Brown on contract and he will be an important player for us next season. I’m currently looking at a number of trialists who are training with us however I’m not prepared to pay over the odds in wages and jeopardise the stability of this football club.”

Black burn Rovers will bring a squad which will consist mainly of their reserve players but should include young prospects such as Julio Santa Cruz and Aaron Doran. Last season Blackburn won the contest at Rivacre Park 5-1 with Karl Noon grabbing a late Vauxhall consolation goal.

Dean Saunders then brings his Wrexham first team to Rivacre Park on Tuesday 13 July (7.30 ko) which should feature the likes of ex-league players Andy Morrell, Frank Sinclair and Gareth Taylor.

Admission prices for both games will be £5.00 adults, £3.00 concessions, £1.00 Students (student ID required) and all under 16s get in for free.
