Vauxhall Motors have sensationally been saved from relegation

VAUXHALL Motors FC have been given a sensational relegation reprieve after it was confirmed they will be playing in the Blue Square North again next season.

The Football Association officially announced the non-league pyramid structure for next season on Monday and with a number of sides opting to fall through the levels or disbanding, the Motormen have been saved from the drop.

Two clubs from the second tier of the semi-professional game have been brought back into the level following the demise of Chester City and the decision by relegated Grays Athletic to apply for a place in the Ryman Premier Division instead of the Blue Square South.

It leaves each step two division with one side too few, granting both Vauxhall Motors and Worcester City a way back in.

The Motormen finished second bottom of the table but can now add to their six-year Conference status with Monday afternoon’s FA announcement.

Motors chairman Alan Bartlam said: “Obviously we are delighted with the announcement. There remains no pressure whatsoever on Carl (Macauley, manager).

“I know he will put together a good squad who will play football in the right way. We’d love to have a good season, like we did the last time we were given a reprieve, and certainly I know we are capable of it. So many times last season we performed against the bigger clubs who were expected to beat us.”

The Rivacre Park side were saved two years ago to stay in the Blue Square North.
