Redditch United 1 Vauxhall Motors 1

VAUXHALL produced a spirited performance at Redditch United on Saturday, but their failure to turn their second half chances into goals confirmed their relegation from the Blue Square North.

Both sides failed to produce any kind of flowing football on a pitch that had more bounce in it than a trampoline. As a result chances were at a premium in the first half.

James Coates came to the Motors’ rescue after 25 minutes when he produced a double save from Redditch forward Dexter Ravenhill and just two minutes later Motors Jonathan Egerton was taken to hospital for stitches following a head injury.

Right on half time the hosts went 1-0 up when Joe Clarke cut in from the left and from 20 yards and with Coates off his line cleverly curled the ball into the keeper’s top left hand upright.

The Motormen began the second half much brighter and took the game to their hosts and it was no surprise when they equalised ten minutes into the half. Josh Wilson did well holding the ball up before laying it perfectly into the path of Chris Noone in the inside right channel who crossed for his namesake Karl Noon to score his eleventh goal of the campaign from close range.

It seemed only a matter of time before Motors went in front. Brown fired wide from a Moogan corner and Karl Noon who was a constant threat headed tamely at Lewis when well placed and a couple of minutes later Noon was again denied by Lewis.

With the clock ticking down it was Noon again who had a chance to win the points but his unchallenged header went wide.

l Vauxhall are offering all armed forces servicemen and women free entry to their final home league game of the season on production of a valid MOD90 id card. This offer all extends to all War Veterans who are able to produce their veterans badge as a form of identification.
