A collection of New Brighton programmes is to be auctioned

A PRIVATE collection of New Brighton programmes will be sold by Birmingham based Football Memorabilia Auctioneers on March 26 at Coleshill Hotel, Coleshill, Warwickshire.

The programmes are part of an 834 lot auction from a single vendor who has acquired them over a lifetime of collecting.

Robert Adcock, the managing director of the auctioneers conducting the sale said: “We are delighted to conduct this extremely important auction of programmes and memorabilia on behalf of our client who has been involved in collecting long before it became popular and because of this the sale contains some of the rarest programmes to ever appear at Auction. “Certain clubs like New Brighton, Accrington Stanley and Gateshead hold a mystique among collectors with pre-war editions selling for hundreds of pounds each.”

Other notable programmes in the sale include the 1915 FA Cup Final, known as the Khaki Cup Final between Chelsea and Sheffield United played at Old Trafford, this has a guide price of £6000-£8000.

The final is so called because of the number of Service Men in uniform at the match due to the First World War.

There is also a Bootle versus Newton Heath programme from 1890. This is of particular interest because Newton Heath became Manchester United a few years later and because of this carries a guide price of £8000-10000

The Sale is estimated to gross some £250,000 and can be viewed at www.sporting memorys.com
