CAPTAIN Josh Wilson (pictured) scored the only goal of the game to lift the Motormen off the bottom of the Blue Square North table.

Although Hyde had the better of the chances in the first half, the home side produced a battling display throughout and thoroughly deserved all three points.

The first chance of the game fell to Hyde’s David McNiven on 10 minutes but just before he was able to get his shot in from 10 yards out, debutant defender Rory Winters made a superb block tackle to stop the striker in his tracks.

On 25 minutes, ex-Vauxhall captain Mattie Burke hit a deflected shot from 20 yards out but keeper James Coates tipped the ball over to safety. Just three minutes later, Hyde winger Nathan Arnold struck a powerful low shot from the left edge of the box which crashed against the right hand post. Shortly after, Burke grazed the crossbar directly from a corner.

Vauxhalls had their first decent effort on goal after 37 minutes when Wilson set up Brian Moogan but his low shot from 20 yards out failed to trouble Hyde keeper Michael Jones.

It took until the 76th minute for the only goal of the game. Chris Lane delivered a long throw into the penalty box which found the feet of Wilson who cleverly turned and through a crowd of players rifled home a fine left foot shot beyond the outstretched Hyde keeper Jones.

Last night, the Motormen were taking on local rivals Northwich Victoria at Rivacre Park. On Saturday 3pm ko), Vauxhalls make the long trip to league newcomers Corby Town.

Vauxhall Motors have signed 20-year-old defender Rory Winters on a one month loan from Coca-Cola League Two side Morecambe.
