Ryan Wignall switches to Royal Racing FC Montegnée

CAMMELL LAIRD flyer Ryan Wignall has joined Belgian league side Royal Racing FC Montegnée.

The former Liverpool Academy star is the latest Merseyside player to try and rebuild his career on the continent after Paul Taylor, previously with Vauxhall Motors and Chester City, was snapped up by Europa League side Anderlecht.

Taylor was taken from the football wilderness by Belgian fourth division side RRFC Montegnée after his contract with Chester was terminated. He then signed for Anderlecht in January.

Now on loan with Belgian first division rivals Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, Taylor’s story was the catalyst for Wignall’s move.

Wignall joined Cammell Laird late last year, but having been recommended by Montegnée scout Rob Shield, the 25-year-old signed full-time forms with the Liege club on Friday.

RRFC’s president is Burnley native Paul Topping who said: “Ryan actually contacted us in December having seen the article in the Wirral News about Paul Taylor.

“We then had one our north west scouts, Rob Shield, take a look at him and he recommended we try and sign Ryan.”
