A POINT each was a fair result in this entertaining encounter at Rivacre Park.
It was Vauxhall’s first league point since October and was well deserved with a battling performance against sixth placed Alfreton Town.
The away side took the lead after just four minutes when Liam Hearn capitalised on a poor clearance to score his 10th league goal of the season.
Hearn picked the ball up 30 yards out and ran at the Motors defence before unleashing a fine right foot shot beyond the outstretched James Coates.
Motors had plenty of possession however and were finding it difficult to progress in the final third of the pitch with Alfreton having a well marshalled defence.
Vauxhall’s leading goalscorer Lee Furlong went close on 10 minutes, however he shot wide of the left hand post following a good right wing cross from Chris Lane.
Vauxhall grabbed their equaliser on 21 minutes with a looping header from Motors captain Josh Wilson.
Wilson started the move off near the halfway line and threaded the ball through to Lane on the right wing, who put in a pinpoint right wing cross which was superbly headed home by Wilson from eight yards out.
The second half was end to end but neither side could find the winning goal.
Vauxhall midfielder Tom Grice had the best opportunity for the home side on 70 minutes when he was given space to run at the Alfreton defence but his right foot shot from 20 yards was well held by Alfreton keeper Paddy Gamble.
