THE midweek Wirral FA Youth Cup Final saw Neston Nomads play out a thrilling encounter against MST Bootle, but they were cruelly denied beaten by a goal four minutes from time that edged over the line after hitting the bar.

Neston had started the game very brightly and after 21 minutes took a deserved lead, but five minutes after the restart the scores were level.

The game ebbed and flowed until the final fifteen minutes when Bootle created a number of chances before hitting the vital winner.

Praise goes to Neston for their excellent performance as they were a credit to the league and on another day they could have earned themselves a superb trophy.

Poulton Royal made it a treble celebration when claiming the Capitol Cup from the holders Oyster Catcher following a hard fought and even encounter that was decided by a great strike from Ian Mitchell after good work by Neil Atkinson in this 1-0 victory.

The goal came in the final fifteen minutes to give Royal the cup to add the Magee Cup and Joey Griffiths trophy, plus runners up spot in the Premier Division. Man-of-the-Match awards went to Wesley Hyndes (Oyster) and Byron Roberts (Royal) but every player certainly played their part in an end to end tussle.

Third place in Division Two went to Farmers Arms after a titanic battle with FC Victoria who led for a long time due to a Graham Plant goal, but a superb equaliser from John Gillan gave Farmers a share of the spoils and kept them above the Vics in the scramble for promotion places.

Youth Division action saw Neston Youth go nap versus Oxton Villa as Niall Robinson (2), Connor Robinson, Adam Moore and Harry Burnett fired the goals in this 5-1 win which is their penultimate game of the season.
