VAUXHALL MOTORS 1KING’S LYNN 3

KING’S LYNN grabbed all three points against injury hit Vauxhall Motors in this typical end of season encounter.

The away side put up a spirited performance in the wake of the midweek news that they will be demoted form the Blue Square North at the end of the season due to not fulfilling ground requirements.

King’s Lynn took just 2 minutes to open the scoring when Adam Smith took advantage of some poor Vauxhall defending and raced through to place the ball beyond keeper James Coates.

Vauxhall’s started to push for an equaliser, firstly Mattie Burke tried his luck from 20 yards out but his shot went just over, then after 15 minutes, Chris Noone made a great run on the right and crossed for Lee Furlong but as he slid towards goal the referee spotted a handball and awarded a free-kick to King’s Lynn.

On 35 minutes Vauxhall’s got their equaliser. Lee Furlong made progress on the right and whipped in a great cross for strike partner Karl Noon to head home from close range for this 12th goal of the season.

Just as Vauxhall’s were getting a foothold on the game, they were unfortunate to lose the influential Tom Field and Chris Noone due to injury and this meant a rare substitute appearance for player-manager Carl Macauley.

On 42 minutes King’s Lynn regained their lead, it was more poor defending again from the home side as Jack Defty was left unmarked to head home from 4 yards out.

The second half was fairly uneventful with both sides enjoying a fair amount of possession. It took until the 75th minute for King’s Lynn to seal the victory, substitute Ross Kelly latched onto a great through ball which deceived a couple of Vauxhall defenders and rifled home a left foot shot from 8 yards out giving the outstretched Coates no chance.

At the end of the game the awards were given out for the supporters, players and manager’s player of the year.

On the pitch after the final whistle, the Supporter's Player of the Year was presented to goalkeeper James Coates.

Chairman Alan Bartlam presented the Player's Player of the Year award to team captain Mattie Burke.

Manager Carl Macauley presented his award to Chris Noone.
