Motors look for late play-off push after Farsley win

VAUXHALL have now notched up five wins on the bounce with a confident performance against their Yorkshire opponents, Farsley Celtic.

The Motormen have not lost since November and may have an outside chance of a play-off position with their current run of form.

Both sides were evenly matched until the 36th minute, when a long ball was lofted over to the right wing, which found Chris Noone in space.

He cut inside and drilled a deflected low right foot shot into the corner of the net to make it 1-0 to Vauxhall.

Neither side failed to create any further notable chances in the first half as most of the possession was fought in the midfield area.

After the interval, the home side made the points safe on 50 minutes with a second goal.

James Holden played a short corner, then whipped the ball into the box and defender Alan Griffiths was left unmarked to head home from six-yards out.

After 80 minutes, Farsley had a possible penalty shout turned away when Vauxhall defender Jordan Holmes appeared to handle in the box but the referee was close enough to decide the ball hit the defender’s chest as opposed to his arm.

Vauxhall could have had a third goal when Rob Marsh- Evans roamed forward and played a neat one-two with Tom Field.

But Curtis Aspden was alert enough to race from his line and make a smart save with his legs.

With just two minutes remaining, Farsley should have scored when a cross from the right found substitute Scott Broughton with space but his downward header failed to trouble the home keeper, James Coates from six- yards out.
