Cammell Lairds FC bounce back with win at Nantwich

A CROWD approaching 1,000 were willing the homesters on but most went home disappointed after Derek Ward's men confounded the odds to grab a well-deserved three points.

Buoyed on by the home support, Nantwich came at Lairds from the start, buoyed on by the home support. But the Wirral side were strong at the back and thwarted any effort the Dabbers could muster.

On the half hour mark, it was Lairds who took the lead when Richie Foulkes struck a pinpoint free-kick from just outside the box to find the top corner of the net.

The second half saw more pressure from Nantwich and it was a world-class performance from Lairds keeper Khalid Al- Samarraie that kept the scoreline in their favour with a series of great saves.

Lairds boss Derek Ward was full of praise for his players. He said: "I am proud of each and every man who wore the shirt today.

"It hasn't been an easy few weeks at Cammell Laird, but I think we have shown the mettle that exists here at Kirklands.

"We will never be a pushover for any opposition and that was in evidence at Nantwich on New Years Day.

"My boys pulled out all of the stops to show what they are capable of and we can't wait till the next game"

Lairds travel to Leigh Genesis on Saturday, which marks the home clubs debut at the purpose- built 10,000 seater Leigh Sports Village stadium. Organised transport to the game is arranged. To book your seat contact Lairds on 07711 747 216.
