Tower prove too lofty for the Office

THE TOWER are the new holders of the Magee Cup after beating The Office 6-1 in the remaining cup final of the Wallasey and District Sunday League.

Dave Rudge grabbed two for Tower, while other goals came from Mike Pickles, Paul Murray, Max Blood and a 40-yard screamer from Craig Griffiths added to the tally as Tower finished the game in confident fashion to collect their second trophy of the season.

Three other games took place in Division Two and saw Young Lions overcome Leasowe Alliance with a 3-1 result, while FC Victoria ended in the top six following their 6-3 defeat of Stanley’s Cask.

Irby FC finished their season with a 3-2 victory over champions Liscard Bronze to ensure they took the runners-up spot, while the Friday night Division One cup final saw Oyster Catcher claim their fifth piece of silverware with a 1-0 win over battling Pilot Boat.

All member clubs are reminded that the AGM will take place in the Bronze Social Club on Thursday, June 5, starting at 7.40pm. League applications and subscriptions should now be paid to the League Secretary.

Meanwhile in the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League, the week started with a replay of the Veronica Conway Cup final on Bank Holiday Monday.

The first time it kicked-off torrential rain stopped play at half-time, but there was no sign of rain on Monday and Shaftesbury ‘A’ sealed the game with a 4-1 win over Brow FC.

Tuesday saw Wirral Liberals beat Young Lions 4-2, while New Brighton Youth were on form again putting seven past Stork and also fighting for the Division’s title were Victoria Lairds, who beat Newton Athletic 6-0.

Last Thursday, Black Horse romped to victory with a 3-1 win over Wirral Nomads in the David Tacy Memorial Trophy Final.

In the Premier Division, the Brow held Queens Park to a 1-1 draw, but Queens were runners-up in the league title race as Woodchurch took on the other contender for the title – Shaftesbury ‘A’.

Goals from Pew and Cairnes decided the placings, as Woodchurch took all three points and the title.

In the Youth Division, Heswall put six past Newton Athletic, while New Brighton continued their fantastic form with another six goals to take all three points from Ashville Coltsfor them to be crowned champions of the Youth Division.
