VAUXHALL Motors confirmed their relegation into the UniBond Premier Division next season following a 4-1 defeat at Stalybridge Celtic last Saturday.
But the Motormen earned great praise for their football in the face of adversity, as they were forced into having three captains on the day due to injuries after Celtic raced into an early 2-goal lead.
Carl Macauley’s side responded almost immediately through Tom Field and from then on, dominated midfield for long spells without much reward.
Motors lost their original skipper Craig Robinson, on 33 minutes and while down to 10 men, Celtic struck a crucial third.
In fairness, Vauxhall keeper Lloyd Rigby also made a number of outstanding saves.
This Saturday, Motors host Hinckley United, who are still battling against relegation. Kick-off at Rivacre Park is at 3pm.
