A STUNNING display by former Southport keeper Steve Dickinson for his new club Hucknall Town almost single-handedly inflicted the final nail in Vauxhall’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Blue Square North at Rivacre Park last Saturday.

He produced five outstanding saves at crucial times in a game the Motormen simply had to win to give themselves a fighting chance of avoiding a return to the Unibond Premier Division.

Twice in the first period he brought off superb saves from Tom Field and in between also denied Thomas Carroll, on his senior home debut.

Hucknall struck right on half time to lead at the break through James Cullingworth after good play by Danny Bacon and Benny Saunders.

Dickinson then went full length to keep out stinging efforts from Peter Heler and Jordan Holmes, before Rob Wilson headed the visitors further in front on 73 minutes.

Peter Knox rounded-off a seemingly comprehensive 3-0 victory for the Nottingham club, which all but condemns Carl Macauley’s side to relegation.

The Motormen complete their away league programme with the short trip to second-placed Stalybridge Celtic this Saturday.
