Port win final over Nomads while Bird to face Willows

ELLESMERE Port won the Wallasey & District Sunday League’s Youth Division Cup after scoring in the second period of extra time against Neston Nomads.

A man-of-the-match performance by Port’s captain Andy Charlton was emphasised with him registering the only goal.

Both sides had chances in normal time but good goalkeeping kept the scores blank until the late match-winner was fired home by Charlton.

The overdue Capitol Cup tie between Shaftesbury Youth and Egremont Ferry resulted in a miss-match.

Ferry sailed to a double fixture success in which John Pomphrett bagged five goals, Ian Thomas netted four and Lee McChrystal claimed two.

The Joeys eased past Leasowe Alliance in the Dutchman Cup third round with a 4-0 victory as Ben Smith fired a superb hat-trick, with an own goal completing the win.

The only Premier Division fixture saw Poulton Royal scupper Ship FC in a 3-1 success thanks to a Sean Rooney double and a single from Dave Favager to help them maintain an outside chance of the title.

In Division One, Rose & Crown romped home 3-0 against Townfield as Lee Dermody notched two goals and Joe Williams scored the other to keep them third and dent Townfield’s promotion hopes.

Pilot Boat had to rely on an own goal to help them get a share of the spoils in the 1-1 draw with Windsor, whose scorer was Joe McKeown.

Division Two action saw Liscard Bronze galvanise top spot with a 2-0 win over Farmers Arms as Scott Tebb bagged a great double.

A solitary Steve Dutton goal gave Young Lions the points in a hard fought match against FC Victoria, while goals from Daryl Hellon and Peter Cain earned Phoenix a 2-1 victory over Mackenzies who replied through Simon Parsonage.

Next Sunday sees the Premier Division Cup Final at Poulton Vics FC as The Office take on The Tower, with an 11am kick-off.

Meanwhile in the Birkenhead and Wirral Sunday League, Bird In Hand will play Willows in the final of the Victory Cup after they overcame Moreton 3-1 thanks to goals from Colin Davies (2) and Robbie Black.

In the other semi-final, Willows (Kevin Upton) edged past Kelma (Kev Miller) via the lottery of penalties after the scores were level at 1-1 after extra-time.

In Division Two, league leaders Future eased past Trafalgar Rangers 4-1. Billy Devey struck two, while Mikey Devey and Shaun Phillips also got on the scoresheet. Steve Atkins scored for Rangers.
