CAMMELL LAIRD beat play-off hopefuls Gresley Rovers in the UniBond League Division One South.

Laird took a deserved lead midway through the first half when home debutante Mark Reed tapped in a probing Alex Hay cross.

Hay got the second with a thunderbolt which – if it were not heading for the net – would surely have been bouncing over the roundabout at the old shipyard.

The victory means Lairds travel to leaders Retford United next Saturday, with high hopes of turning over the Nottingham side to keep their championship dream alive.
