ANDY Mutch’s Vauxhall Motors produced a tremendous team display in their FA Trophy tie at home to Blue Square Premier club Northwich Vics, to oust their Cheshire rivals from the competition.
Skipper Tom Field put Motors into an early lead and further home goals might have followed as Vauxhall consistently troubled the Vics defence with their neat attacking play. Paul Taylor in particular ran the Vics rearguard ragged, but was denied a second when his lobbed effort was headed off the line.
Shortly after the interval, Vics drew level through Lee Steele but former Tranmere player Ged Brannan headed the Motormen back in front on 75 minutes after a superb piece of skill by Taylor. Northwich were reduced to ten men shortly after when Nat Kerr was shown his second yellow card but it took a fantastic save by Motors keeper Andrew Murphy in injury time to cement this famous victory.
This Saturday the Motormen are away to AFC Telford United (2pm) in a re-arranged Blue Square North fixture, before they play host to Barrow on Boxing Day (3pm) back at Rivacre Park.
