Bird top of the pecking order

IN Division One of the Birkenhead Football League, Bird in Hand remain in top spot after a 5-1 victory over under-strength FC Borough.

Colin Davies led the way with a fine hat-trick and Francis Tollan struck a brace, as the Bird were once again ruthless in front of goal. Chris Amus netted a consolation for FC Borough. Elsewhere, Moreton won the derby with AC Brookley 3-1 thanks to goals from Ricky Lampkin, John McVoy and Paul Greenslade.

An impressive all round performance from Kelma saw them ease past Manor Athletic 7-1.

John Walker, Mark Lawler and Mike McReary all scored twice and Kevin Miller rounded off the scoring.

Willows and Universal Windows had to settle for a point each after an exciting game ended 3-3.

Scott Clifton led the way for ten man Universal with two, and the pick of Willows' goals was a rasping volley from Ryan Elkerton.

In Division Two, leaders Future staged a second half comeback to come from 3-1 down to beat Claughton Hotel 4-3.

Man of the match Paul Devey netted twice and was supported by strikes from Jamie Ferguson and Mike Whitley.

Claughton's scorers were Andy Ward (2) and Jake Coulson. Eddie Sample was the hero for Avenue, scoring all three goals in their 3-1 win at Trafalgar Rangers.

Eddie Atkins fired a fine consolation for Trafalgar. Goals from Terry Burnett, Mike Jones and Adam Kinear helped Bronze Social to record an impressive 3-1 scoreline at Wellington FC. Ashley Oldham hit two and Pete Burn also netted as FC Village defeated Wirral Wanderers 3-1, whilst Central Park comfortably beat nine man Bebington Rovers 5-1.
