Bird in Hand avenge cup defeat at Levers

IN DIVISION One of the Birkenhead and Wirral Football League, leaders Bird in Hand avenged their cup defeat to Kelma with an impressive 4-0 victory at Levers.

Mark Howell scored the pick of the goals with an incredible 40-yard strike, while Byron Roberts, Lee Bridge and substitute Francis Tollman completed the scoring.

Second placed Moreton were indebted to Wayne Robinson, who scored a last minute equaliser to snatch a point against FC Borough, who led through two goals from Philly Upton.

Elsewhere, goals from John McGragh (2), Danny Smith, Steve Large, Danny Holdsworth and Andy Forster helped Parkfield BA to a 6-3 win over Universal Windows.

A goal each from Colin Tunstall and David Dudley was enough for AC Brookley to take maximum points at Manor.

Man-of-the-match Gary Howarth inspired Willows to an excellent 4-2 win at Sports Bar. He registered twice and was supported by strikes from James Thomas and Ryan Elkerton.

In Division Two, Avenue drew 5-5 with FC Village while Claughton Hotel edged past Wirral Wanderers 2-1.

Tower enjoyed a 5-3 victory over Central Park., while Future remain on top of the table after a 5-0 away win at Bebington Rovers.

In the Truman Cup, first round efforts from Robbie Langton (2), Adam Kinear and an own goal were enough to see Bronze Social scrape past Wellington by four goals to three.

Everyone in the Birkenhead and Wirral Football League would like to wish a speedy recovery to Peter Lewis, secretary of Bird in Hand, who suffered a heart attack this week.
