Windows shine in Regent Cup

AN INSPIRED display from Anthony Moore steered Universal Windows into the second round of the Regent Cup with a 5-3 win at Claughton Hotel.

Moore struck all five goals but special praise must go to Dean Judge, who claimed four assists. Kevin Kelly, Robbie Leyland and Liam O’Dowd replied for the Division Two outfit.

In other action, FC Borough comfortably defeated Central Park 6-1. Lee Kearney and Nathan Rose both grabbed two goals each, while Sky Sample and man-of-the-match Mikey Kearney also netted. Paul Gunderson scored a consolation from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Mark Lawler grabbed a hat-trick and Mike McCreary also registered as Kelma eased past Bronze Social 4-0.

Avenue dug deep to come from 2-1 down to defeat Tower 3-2 after extra time. The all important goal came in the 120th minute. Earlier, Mike Williams had struck twice for Tower. Parkfield BA stormed into the second round, hitting 10 without reply against hapless Willows.

Danny Smith plundered a hat-trick and Danny Holdsworth notched two. Also through are AC Brookley, who overcame Bebington Rovers 6-2. Leon Grundy, Gary James, Stuart Williams, Steve Tunstall, Jake Paynter and Chris Sacken all found the net for the victors.

In Division One, leaders Bird in Hand took on title rivals Moreton and the reigning champions came away with a hard fought 4-2 victory.

Francis Tollman fired another two goals and was supported by strikes from Robbie Black and Paul Howell.

Moreton staged a second half comeback but, despite hitting the woodwork late on, could not snatch a point.
